President Murmu launches INS Vindhyagiri, 6th covertness frigate in Naval force’s stockpile

President Droupadi Murmu sent off INS Vindhyagiri, a high level covertness frigate, at the GRSE office on the banks of the Waterway Hooghly in Kolkata.

An advanced stealth frigate, INS Vindhyagiri, was launched on Thursday by President Droupadi Murmu at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) facility in Kolkata, which is located along the banks of the River Hooghly.

During the launch ceremony, key officials including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor SCV Ananda Bose, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, and others were also present.

The sixth stealth frigate constructed at the GRSE as part of Project 17A is INS Vindhyagiri.

INS Vindhyagiri will join its two sister ships at the GRSE outfitting jetty following the launch to advance with the last-minute tasks and equipment trials in preparation for their delivery and commissioning.

According to the Narendra Modi-led union government’s vision of a “AatmaNirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), more than 75% of Project 17 A’s orders have been given to domestic companies, including MSMEs and ancillary sectors. President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of Vindhyagiri during the ceremony. He expressed his hope that as INS Vindhyagiri sailed with unwavering determination and upheld the values we cherish, it would draw strength from the very mountains it was named after.
